\nWe believe that the most important job that anyone can have is being a parent. Unfortunately, that has not been recognised and affirmed for more than the last fifty years!

We live in a culture where STATUS and FINANCIAL REWARD are the main drivers in most career decisions, often these result in a dangerous work\/life balance for which the family often \u201cpick up the tab\u201d. Often the question that many who are caught in this trap ask is \u201cwhat else can I do?\u201d That is where FamiliesFirst24 can help!

\nWe have heard from many men who have lost their job, which carried significant status and reward, only to secure one which gives a proper work\/life balance. These jobs are usually of lower status and reward but, amazingly, there can be a twofold benefit, firstly an improvement in the Dad's health, both physical and mental, as well as a greater sense of well being for him. Secondly, for the family, which is likely to feel better off and the richer for the Dad being \"present\" and thus able to play his true part.

\n\t\t\t\t\t\tOne example of this is \u201cBrian\u2019s experience\u201d (not his real name). He was made redundant from his job running the IT department of a large corporation \u2013 a job that he hadn\u2019t been happy in for a long time. He then started teaching primary school aged children to play tennis \u2013 a game which he had always enjoyed. In addition to the benefits to the children, Brian gets a lot of pleasure from this new job, he is much healthier, his stress\/anxiety levels plummeted and is able to be there for his wife and children in a away that he hasn\u2019t for years.


Brian\u2019s experience illustrates the health benefits of such a change of job. There have never been higher levels of stress and anxiety, with over 86% UK adult population reporting stress caused by finance\/work pressures (5). Additionally, the UK\u2019s heart health has declined more rapidly in the 2020\u2019s than in any other decade in the past 50 years (6).

We are also very aware of the links between social media usage and mental health illnesses; this is a topic requires more discussion than this page allows, but it is another area in which we offer help and support.
